Preview — Michael Feinstein’s American Songbook: Show Tunes

I’d say 8 o’ clock is the best time to watch television. You’re not really concerned about dinner anymore, the dishes have been stowed… yet, it’s not quite bedtime. Lucky for you, tonight at 8, KACV has season 3 of Michael Feinstein’s American Songbook! If you can recall (long, long ago… in a galaxy far, far away), I mentioned Michael Feinstein in a blog about Broadway or Bust — he was a guest star on the show.

Tonight’s episode is about show tunes. You only need to read probably three of my blogs to know where my interests lie… and let me tell ya, show tunes are among the top contenders for my favourite things in this entire world. He will be delving into the world of Broadway including a discussion with the one, the only…. Angela Lansbury!

Here’s a photo of Angela Lansbury in her film debut, Gaslight (1944)

Throughout the season, you can look forward to rare footage of broadway performances and radio performances… including never-before-seen clips of Gene Kelly in his acclaimed Broadway performance of Pal Joey. Supposedly, Judy Garland attended a performance of Pal Joey and that’s how Gene Kelly landed his very first acting role in the film alongside Judy in For Me and My Gal!

Oh, and on the second episode… well.. let’s just say someone with Judy Garland and Vincente Minnelli’s genes will be guest starring…

I encourage you to watch American Songbook tonight and let me know what you think. Check back for my Double Take!
