Preview — On Story: “Creators”

If you’re tired of channel surfing and need a new show to get hooked on, look no further! Today on KACV you should join me in watching Austin Film Festival’s production ‘On Story’. Since ‘Broadway or Bust’ ended last Sunday, I was given the suggestion to watch ‘On Story’ based on my love for film and behind-the-scenes material. After watching a few episodes on their website, I can say with full confidence this series is a fountain of information for cinephiles.

Every week, KACV will air new episodes featuring filmmakers as they harken back to the beginnings of production of films and television series. The term ‘filmmaker’ is a blanket term for producers, screenwriters, and executive creators, so you’re not just hearing from the glorified directors of films and television shows. I like to look at the “little guy”, so to speak, because they really don’t get the coverage or exposure directors receive from critics and audiences — and if you think screenwriters are inferior to directors, well, I just don’t know if I can take you seriously!

Tonight’s episode, “Creators”, focuses on the—you guessed it—creators of highly-acclaimed television series such as ‘Bones’ and ‘Veronica Mars’. Hart Hanson and Rob Thomas relay the key elements of creating a successful television show. As I’m sure you can imagine, the road to success is never an easy one and they’re not afraid to talk about the seedy underbelly of network television. The episode description says the interviews are followed by two short films, as well.

‘On Story’ is a great source of information condensed into a half hour show. If you’re interested in filmmaking or any aspect of the inner workings of film, you should tune into KACV this evening at 5:30P and join me tomorrow for a Double Take of ‘On Story’!
